Organized by the association “Dinarica” and its partners, the conference „Strengthening National Commitments Through the Restoration and Conservation of Peatlands“ was held on 8 July at Hotel “Buna” in Mostar, with participation from representatives of the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas.
During the event, the project „Restoration of Peatlands in the BijambareProtected Landscape“ was presented, highlighting the active role of the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas Sarajevo in preserving these rare and valuable ecosystems. The project began with the development of an expert programme and restoration guidelines, and is currently focused on preparing a technical solution to maintain the peatland’s hydrological regime – a key step toward full restoration.
Peatlands are invaluable resources in the fight against climate change, as they store vast amounts of carbon, regulate water systems, and preserve biodiversity.
