Representatives of the Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas participated on 14 May in the closing event of the FORESTMAP project, held in Tarčin. The project, implemented by the FEA – Forestry and Environmental Action, addresses one of the most significant challenges in the forestry sector: improving forest management through the mapping of areas at risk of illegal logging across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As the institution responsible for managing some of the most valuable natural resources in Sarajevo Canton, the Public Institution actively supports the implementation of the project through the exchange of field-based experience and expertise, identification of critical hotspots within protected areas, implementation of modern monitoring solutions and action plans that facilitate the work of supervisory services, and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in combating illegal activities in forest ecosystems.

The project highlighted the importance of digitalisation and precise terrain mapping as essential tools for the long-term protection of natural resources. Advanced data collection, risk assessment, and monitoring mechanisms can significantly improve the effectiveness of forest management and conservation efforts.

Participants emphasized that only through coordinated action by experts, public institutions, and civil society organisations can a sustainable future for forests be secured. Strengthened cooperation and the adoption of innovative technologies will play a crucial role in preserving forest ecosystems and ensuring their resilience for future generations.
