The “Giro di Ćiro” cycling route was officially opened on 8 May. It is a unique route connecting Sarajevo and Pale, following the path of the former narrow-gauge Ćiro railway. This attractive trail links the two entities and passes through two protected areas – the Bentbaša Protected Landscape and the Trebević Nature Park – offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy the area’s natural beauty, cultural and historical heritage, and recreational attractions.

The project was funded by the European Union Delegation to Bosniaand Herzegovina, and the opening was marked by a gathering of cyclists from Sarajevo and Pale. The attendees were addressed by Luigi Soreca, Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the mayors of the municipalities of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Istočni Stari Grad and Pale, as well as the mayors of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo.

“Giro di Ćiro” represents another step towards connecting people, promoting sustainable tourism, and developing cycling infrastructure, while also contributing to the preservation and promotion of the valuable natural areas through which the route passes.
