At the “Vrelo Bosne” Natural Monument, the first-ever ringing of mute swans (Cygnus olor) in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been conducted. This milestone was achieved in collaboration with the Ornithological Society “Naše ptice,” with which the Institution works jointly on the conservation and study of bird species, not only at this site but across all protected areas under its management.
The ringing of swans will enable the monitoring of their health, migratory routes, nesting, and wintering areas. Additionally, it will allow for long-term comparisons of demographic parameters with climatic data, which is crucial for the preservation of this species and the protection of the natural wealth of the “Vrelo Bosne” Natural Monument.
This significant step in ornithological research provides valuable insights that will contribute to better population management of swans and the implementation of effective conservation measures in this protected area.
