As part of the project “Strengthening Operational Preparedness and Awareness for Forest Fire Protection”, workshops focusing on fire prevention and nature conservation were held on 1 and 2 October at Isak Samokovlija and Grbavica 2 primary schools in Sarajevo. The workshops were conducted by staff from the Sarajevo-based Republic Agency and the Sarajevo Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas.

The workshops were designed as short, dynamic, and interactive sessions involving large groups of students. Rather than attending traditional lectures, students actively participated in a quiz, selecting one of three possible answers to each question by raising the corresponding answer card. After each response, an expert briefly explained the correct answer, why it was important, and how to respond appropriately in real-life situations.

Following the quiz, members of the Sarajevo Canton Fire Brigade introduced students to firefighting equipment and vehicles, providing them with practical insights into the work of firefighters.

The aim of the workshops was not to encourage students to memorise large amounts of information, but rather to familiarise them with a few essential rules: how to prevent fires, how to react if they notice smoke or flames, whom to contact in an emergency, and why protecting nature and the protected natural areas of Sarajevo Canton is so important.
