As part of the European Car-Free Day celebrations, a cycling event was held at Vrelo Bosne on 22 September, organised by the Sarajevo Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas. More than 300 students from primary and secondary schools in Ilidža participated in the event, cycling from the beginning of Velika Aleja to the end of Stojčevac Aleja and back.
The event was organised as part of the Institution’s project marking important environmental awareness dates in cooperation with primary and secondary schools, which has been implemented since 2011. To date, more than 18,000 students have participated in the project.
The aim of the initiative is to actively engage students in the activities of protected areas and raise their awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving natural heritage.
