Organized by the Mountaineering Society “Skakavac” from Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas and many other institutions, the 8th Sarajevo Outdoor Festival took place in the protected area of Skakavac on 7 and 8 September, gathering a large number of participants and visitors.
As part of the festival, the Skakavac Trail was held, with participants from France, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Russia, the United States, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the host country, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Competitors participated in the marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), recreational trail (8.5 km), B2B trail (4.5 km), and Canicross trail (7.5 km), where owners ran with their pets. There was also a mountain biking race, the “Skakavac MBT Tour.”
At the Skakavac plateau, the “Enjoy Outdoor Sarajevo” outdoor sports and tourism fair was held, bringing together sports clubs, travel agencies, and local product manufacturers. Visitors could join a hiking tour or try climbing. Yoga enthusiasts enjoyed the “Sun Salutation from Skakavac” sessions, while the youngest visitors participated in sports and educational workshops called “Active Skakavac,” led by the GSS Sarajevo team, where children learned the basics of mountaineering and essential outdoor survival skills. The festival also featured concerts by the bands “Konvoj” and “Skroz.”
This event promoted the capacities and potential of the Skakavac Nature Monument, one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s natural gems. Such events help popularize it beyond the country’s borders, placing it on the map of must-visit places around the world.
