Agreement Signed with the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism

On 16 September 2025, an agreement was signed at the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism for the project titled “Research and Valorization of Beech Forests in the Skakavac Natural Monument as a Potential UNESCO Heritage Site.” The project is supported through the Action Plan of the Environmental Strategy for 2025.

Beech forests are among Europe’s most valuable natural treasures, and within the Skakavac Natural Monument, there are exceptionally well-preserved examples that meet the strict criteria for international protection.

The project’s goal is to research and assess the value of these forests and to examine their potential for nomination as a UNESCO serial natural property.
