On 20 October 2022, the removal of the stumps of cut down sycamore and horse chestnut trees began in Velika Aleja. The works are carried out pursuant to the Agreement with the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton and the valid Management Plan for the “Vrelo Bosne” Nature Monument. The deadline for completing the works is 15 days.
Considering that these are sensitive trees over 120 years old, the removal of their stumps is done with a specialised machine, the action of which will not damage the root systems of neighbouring trees and the surrounding infrastructure. In the following period, new trees are planned to be planted in the places where the stumps have been removed.
