On 31 August 2022, the Night of the Bats was marked in Bentbaša as part of the project “We know and protect the natural values of Sarajevo Canton” implemented by the Center for the Environment, Energy and Resources – CENER 21 and the project of marking important ecological dates in cooperation with primary and secondary schools, which has been implemented by the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas for the twelfth year in a row. A lecture about bats was given to interested participants of different generations by employees from CENERA 21, and about the natural values of the Protected Landscape “Bentbaša” by an employee of the Institution. On that occasion, all participants visited this area, which is unique in many respects.

Bats are important because they feed on harmful insects in forest ecosystems and thus contribute to their balance. A significant number of bat species are recorded in the protected areas of Sarajevo Canton and are on the IUCN Red List and NATURA 2000 species list.
