As part of the celebration of European Car-Free Day, the Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas organized a cycling event at Vrelo Bosne on 20 September, with over 300 students from primary and secondary schools in Ilidža participating. The ride began at the start of Velika Aleja near the horse-drawn carriage stop, with the students cycling to the end of Stojčevac alley and back, accompanied by police and medical assistance.
This event was part of a project to mark significant environmental dates, in collaboration with primary and secondary schools, which the Public Institution has been implementing since 2011. In a statement to the media, which gathered in large numbers, the director of the Institution, Asad Jelešković, mentioned that the cycling event has become a tradition, organized with students from Ilidža’s primary and secondary schools. He noted that through the Institution’s activities marking important environmental dates, over 15,000 children have participated in various events to date. He emphasized that the goal of today’s event was to raise public awareness about environmental protection and reducing pollution caused by car usage. He also expressed gratitude to the sponsor of the event, Coca-Cola, which has been a long-time partner of the Institution in this project.
