As part of the EuroBirdwatch Day, practical education on the diversity of bird species in the area of the “Trebević” Protected Landscape was held on 1 October 2022. Accompanied by an ornithologist, pupils and students from the Sarajevo Canton watched the birds through binoculars and listened to their songs. EuroBirdwatch Day is celebrated on the first weekend in October with the aim of making the young population aware of the importance of preserving the habitats, wintering grounds and nesting grounds of migratory bird species and their migratory routes.
This event was organized by the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas and the Center for Energy, Environment and Resources – CENER 21, in cooperation with the Ornithological Society “Naše ptice” from Sarajevo, within the framework of two projects – “We Know and Protect the Natural Values of Canton Sarajevo” implemented by CENER 21, and the project of marking important ecological dates in cooperation with primary and secondary schools, implemented by Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas for the twelfth year in a row.
