Based on an agreement signed between the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas and the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first phase of systematic archaeological research began on 2 June at the Draguljac site, located within the Trebević Protected Landscape. The research will continue until 13 June.
This year’s excavations are being carried out in cooperation with several institutions: the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas Sarajevo, the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, and the Cantonal Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical, and Natural Heritage of Sarajevo. The archaeological work aims to identify and protect potential cultural and historical remains at the site.
The long-term goal of the project, beyond achieving scientific results, is to allow Trebević visitors to explore the site through the establishment of an archaeological park that will unify and interpret material heritage from various historical periods. The planned park will serve as an educational, cultural, and tourist resource, integrated into the local community and open to both domestic and international visitors.
Students from the University of Sarajevo’s archaeology program are also participating in the fieldwork, with free cable car transport provided for the duration of the research thanks to the support of JP Sarajevo d.o.o.
